Donnie's Music
I am what I would call a music nut. I spend an obscene amount of time listening to music each day and it is my hopes to get some of my random opinions out on some of the various music that I listen to in this blog. The primary genre of music that will be discussed will be metal, but I will dive into some other areas from time to time.

Opeth/Katatonia Concert Review
A couple weeks ago I went to see a concert in Kansas City that featured Opeth with Katatonia opening for them. I didn't really have a lot of prior experience with Katatonia before the show but I left the concert as a fan. They brought a certain energy that was just mesmerizing to see live. The songs sounded great and all in all it was a very enjoyable set to listen to. I wish I could say the same thing Opeth. Opeth was a little disappointing for me. I am not sure what I really expected but I was definitely surprised with the set that they played. If you are a fan of Opeth's earlier music don't even bother seeing them now. They pretty much just played their must recent album and stuck to songs from the past that did not feature any harsh vocals. I was severely disappointed by this because I was expecting to hear songs from their whole discography and was a put off by their refusal to play heavier songs. Opeth is Opeth though and they are phenomenal musicians so the music itself was not bad to listen to it is just not what I wanted to listen to. Even with my disappointment it was still a very good concert and well worth the money that I spent on the tickets.
Dadelus - Love To Make Music To Album Review
This is a pretty random album in my collection.. I can't really describe what I like about it so much, but it just bring a sense of calm to me when I listen to it. It is one of the few album that I have in my collection that can just change my mood for the better in a matter of seconds and I would highly recommend not only checking out the song, but the album. It can be a nice change of pace for any other metalheads out there because it is complex enough to draw you in, but not so overbearing to constantly demand the listeners attention to understand what is going on. Obviously the electronic element may be a turn off for some, but his songs are so thickly layered and the various rhythms just draw the listener in. I wish I could go into more details about the actual songs themselves but they vary so much from one another that it would be hard to do them all justice without going into a song by song breakdown. Rather than do that I will provide one of my favorite songs from the album.
